The  East Asian Anthropological Association (EAAA) is a nonpolitical and nonprofit  professional association of scholars and students based in East Asia and  engaged in related anthropological work on Asia. Since its establishment in  2008, EAAA has organized conferences in China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan, and its  upcoming meeting will be held on 14-15 October at the Chinese University of  Hong Kong, followed on 16 October by a tour of interesting Hong Kong places.

Registration for the conference will be HK$780 (~US$100),  and participants will pay for their own lodging. We can help arrange lodging at  a CUHK guesthouse (for which there are limited spaces) and at the nearby Hyatt  hotel, you will have the chance to choose which of these you would prefer. We  will provide lunches, dinners and refreshments at the conference. More details  about the conference can be found in other sessions of the website.

The  East Asian Anthropological Association (EAAA) is a nonpolitical and nonprofit  professional association of scholars and students based in East Asia and  engaged in related anthropological work on Asia. Since its establishment in  2008, the East Asian Anthropological Association has followed a rotation system  to have its annual meeting held among all participatory member organizations:  Beijing, China (2008), Taipei, Taiwan (2009, 2015), Seoul, Korea (2010), Osaka,  Japan (2011), Hong Kong (2012), and Xiamen, China (2013), Yeongnam, Korea  (2014), and Sapporo, Japan (2016).

Department of Anthropology, The Chinese  University of Hong Kong

The  Department of Anthropology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, as the only  department in Hong Kong specializing in anthropology, has actively promoted the  discipline since 1980. To stimulate the exchange of anthropological knowledge,  the department has organized numerous conferences such as the Society for East  Asian Anthropology Conference in 2016 and 2006, the International Conference on  Foodways and Heritage in 2013, the East Asian Anthropological Association  Conference in 2012, and the International Society for the Studies of Chinese  Overseas Conference in 2011.

The Hong Kong Anthropological Society (HKAS)

The  Hong Kong Anthropological Society (HKAS) was founded in 1978 to promote  anthropology, not only to academics, but also to a larger public of interested  people in Hong Kong and beyond. It has more than 200 members, including  professional anthropologists from local universities, postgraduate and  undergraduate students, and people from a wide range of professions who are  interested in anthropology. The Society seeks to provide a platform for  dissemination of knowledge in anthropology in Hong Kong.

The East Asian Anthropological Association is a  scholarly association of teachers and students of anthropology based in East  Asia and engaged in anthropological work on East Asia. It has its conferences  in China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan in recent years. Its upcoming meeting will  be in Hong Kong 14-16 October 2017. We hope that you will propose a panel or an  individual paper for this conference. You do not need to be a member of EAAA at  present in order to submit a panel or paper; you become a member automatically  by attending this conference.

Please fill out aEAAA panel proposal or EAAA individual paper proposal,  which will require an abstract from you in English. (We regret making English  the conference’s language, but because of the prohibitive expense of hiring  simultaneous translators, this is necessary.) You can submit either a panel proposal, which should have 3-6  participants speaking on a common topic, or an individual paper proposal, which  is your paper alone. Individual paper proposals we will subsequently organize  into panels. Individuals may present one paper and be a discussant for one panel,  but no more than one paper can be presented per participant. Submitted panels  have a somewhat better chance of being accepted for the conference than  individual papers. Panels that cross national boundaries rather than only  dealing with one society are preferred, but we realize that such panels may not  always be possible.

                           Please complete the online proposal forms on or  before 1 May 2017. If you cannot  access the online forms, you can download the word file of the forms (panel proposal / individual  proposal)  and send it to eaaa.hk.2017@gmail.com by  the same deadline. The program committee will make its decisions on the week of  15 May, and will then send out acceptance notices, conference registration  forms, and payment instructions to all participants.
